As with most hand knotted rugs, Bakhtiars’ attributes differ considerably from one carpet to another. The patterns differ, the consistency of the wool and the fineness of the knotting.
For example, a tribal Bakhtiar can range from about 60 knots per square inch to roughly 150 knots per square inch in knotting.
Tribal Bakhtiars main colors are red, blues, and greens. As with most tribal rugs, these Bakhtiar rugs have 100 per cent piles of wool on a wool foundation.
Like all popular designs, workshops in Iran eventually started making their own sophisticated versions of the Bakhtiar, and as the Moghul rulers spread the art of carpet weaving to the Indian subcontinent, so did workshops in South Asia too.
